Waiting

'REMING' AS OF 4:00 AM, NOV. 30

Typhoon Reming will arrive here in Manila tomorrow morning. As I write this entry, it is already pounding Bicol Region--with heavy rains and gusts reaching 225 kph. A week-long power-outage (yet again) is very possible.

I had to go out this morning to stock-up on food and get money from the ATM. Apparently, a lot of people thought of the same thing. There were long lines--kilometric long, at the store and at the bank.

I am desperate. I can't stand powerless nights anymore--i have papers to finish. I can't stand our phoneline going dead for almost a month. I am really fucking angry.

Trapo in a nutshell

This is an example of a classic trapo-speak:

“I almost lost my speakership when I was fighting for Chief Justice
Davide,” he said. He later added: “I did not expect that they would vote
this way now.”

-- Speaker Jose De Venecia

(Published on page A12 of the November 26, 2006 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer)

Fucking typhoon!

i heard a typhoon--Reming--is set to hit Metro Manila. this is really shitty. I hate it. nakaka-inis! why does it have to come now? I have a lot of things to do! and i cant stand a week of powerless/currentless nights! My god! I have to stock-up on food pa, which also means a lot of gastos nanaman. I hate this. Why can't it just go away? let it hit nueva ecija or whatever, but not Manila! nakakainis talaga!

It's going to ruin my schedule pa! i am set to watch Hamlet on saturday, the day after the typhoon is expected to hit manila. shet. I have a lot of papers to finish pa. I can't write them without power. to hell with the typhoon!

Going out on a Monday night.

This is me at KFC tonight in Eastwood. A cam-whoring moment.hahaha

A friend managed to talk me into coming to Eastwood with him to watch a movie. Syempre obviously napapayag naman nya ako. Grabe on a Monday night!

This is me and my friend at Fuzion naman. Grabe takaw niya talaga. He ate a lot. haha Another Cam-whoring session.

By the way, friends lang kami.

This is a Cocktail!

Of men and Ironies

I have stumbled across some interesting things today:
  1. The most accurate clock in the Philippines is found in a PAGASA Observatory in UP Diliman! Yes people, it's in UP! the one near CHE and Reg. Apparently, this clock is the most accurate in the whole of Philippines that it defines the PST-Philippine Standard Time. How ironic noh? Consider the fact that Palma Hall has its own time, PHAN has its own time, Math Building has its own time, and apparently, so does the EEE Building! Talk about Filipino Time.
  2. While thousands of Metro Manila Residents wait for water rations, while thousands of Metro Manila residents stand in line for a bucket of water, apparently, some dam near Manila is always in danger of overflowing, that it releases water every now and then, causing floods in the Nueva Ecija area. Tapos, there have been offers to connect this dam to Anggat Dam, the official water source of Metro Manila, pero MWSS pala isn't taking action. It hasn't for like 13 years! Grabe naman sila. They should think of the residents who, until now, do not have water!

An update on a friend's plan of committing dog genocide

After feeding the dogs with food stuffed with msg-- it turned out to be a failure, My friend actually tried mothballs naman. Grabe noh! Uy don't get me wrong, she might seem like a bad person, but she really isn't . She's really good. Yun nga lang, she doesn't like getting charged at by big dogs. Anyway, she tried mothballs nga pero apparently, hindi daw kinain ng dogs.

Now she's telling me she's giving up her mala-cruela de-vil plan. Dog-lovers out there, rejoice! hindi na raw nya papatayin yung 9 dogs!

A foiled scam

Believe it or not, a friend was accused of stealing a mobile phone at an internet shop. Two guys approached him kanina, and asked for the moblile. Of course, my friend couldn't show them anything kasi nga he really didn't do it--what's there for him to give? Anyway, that afternoon, he went to the internet shop and asked around. It turned out that the two guys were lying. So now, we see two scenarios:

  1. The guys made an honest mistake in accusing my classmate
  2. The guys are scamming.

What is it to be kaya? Here's the catch pa, apparently, these two guys are UP students rin. So much for the mabuhay ang pag-asa ng bayan line.

To Kill a mockingbird... ermm a Dog--DOG-LOVERS, BEWARE.

How does one kill 9 dogs--labs all at the same time?

Believe it or not, I have a friend who asked me that question. Apparently, my friend (Lets call her by the name Lissa Mae) already tried killing the dogs. Yes, seriously she did. It's dog genocide, that's what I told her. She doesn't care though, because dogs do not have souls--that's what she said.
Back to the question, how does on kill dogs?
Some actually gave good ideas:
  1. Feed the dog dark chocoloates (problem: expensive)
  2. Feed the dog with fish--and pray that the fish bones kill the dogs
  3. Feed the dog with Racummin.

And this one totally blew me away! (apparently this is what Lissa Mae did):

Feed the dog some food stuffed with monosodium glutamate (msg) commonly found in Ajinomoto. Yes, too much ajinomoto can kill. Thus, my friend fed the dogs with fish that she stuffed with a lot of Ajinomoto.

It failed though, the dogs were still alive the next day, not even sick from the MSG. Maybe Lissa Mae didn't put enough ajinomoto.

What a day it has been.

My day started out pretty much in the routine:
  1. I woke-up at 10:25 am, with my class starting at 11:30.
  2. I was off to school at exactly 11:30
  3. Got a cab at still around 11:30
  4. Got to class in time for the attendance sheet.
  5. Attended and listened to the passionate lecture of my Professor about Shakespeare.
  6. Ate pancit malabon (strangely, it is called palabok in the canteen) before my next class.
  7. Atteneded my English 116 class, listening to my professor talk, while eating breakfast-lunch--whatever you call it.
  8. Went to the library, finished one essay about Structuralism and F. de Saussure (I have to say this: His logic in how he defined linguistic identities blew me away! It's so beautiful!-In answering where linguistic units get their identities, he rebutted Nomenclaturalism by theorizing that Linguistic units get their identities from their differences from the other linguistic units in a particular linguistic system--not from something inherent in these units, as what Nomenclaturists tend to believe. F. de Saussure managed to create binary relations out of linguistic units, grabe!)
  9. went to the org, tumambay.

The things below are way out of my routine na. hehe It blew me away!--how things manage to become colorful after starting out as routineful as it can be.

  1. Went to Philcoa with Melissa and Mark. Grabe super bonding kami.
  2. Got to talk about really great stuff.

What we got to talk about is so interesting that it has to be talked about in my next entry. ;-p

Issues. Life is full of issues.

It's the confusion-the worldessness, a loss of words. It's the the taxi with two people inside
at 8pm--he, looking outside; her, feeling his hand. It's the dillemma-the profusion of words, all shouting in the head, the pauses and hesitations in mid-action. It's the ringing of the mobile left unanswered--he, browsing the tv; her, listening to the ringing that nobody hears.
(still unfinished)
--at loss for words.

I don't know about you, but i think i do know... or do I?

It's a struggle!

Sobra talaga! This is the first time in my entire academic life that I actually had to ask my teacher a question to lbring her back to her line of thought! Super talaga.
The subject is about Language theories, and we were discussing F. de Saussure. Anyway, yung teacher ko kasi, she is so sabog, I mean ok lang sana if she were teaching English 10 or 11! Pero kumusta naman, we are studying language theories noh! As in this subject is almost a Philosophy subject, and she can't afford to be sabog! Has she ever taken any units in Education? Grabe talaga. When she's discussing something, wala siyang focus! As in she's all over the place!
She knows a lot, that much I know. Pero being able to teach us all she knows about the subject in a systematic way--that is to say that she being able to make us understand the subject well--IS a completely different story.
What am I to do? Ang daming readings, tapos ganun pa? Hay.

Observations

UP Harong problems... personal stuff.

Responsibility issues:
I was with my orgmates this afternoon for a meeting. I don't know pero kanina parang ayoko talaga pumunta, maybe it's because I know going there means accepting the responsibilities our President gave me. Kasi ba naman, konti lang talaga yung mga matrabahong dun--I'm not one of them, our Org president does seem to think otherwise though. Hay nakakainis talaga. I already have a lot in my hands--academic stuff--tapos dadagdag pa 'to! I mean, why does he have to make me responsible for the UP Fair thing?

Another thing pa, kanina, bigla na lang nagsurprise evaluation ng performance sa Academic Festival, I mean how late could it get? Grabe October pa yun! as in ngayon lang mag-aassess nun? Kumusta naman. Grabe talaga. Of course bitter ako kasi I really didn't do my job well, which sort of created a mess. It irritated me how someone in there tried to say that the assessment wasn't supposed to be a time to blame people, pero hello, that's what he did! And although he didn't mention names, I know ako yung pinatamaan niya. I must be stupid if i don't realize that noh. Epal nya ha. Hello, isa rin sya sa naki-gulo dun noh!

Then again, I deserve the bad assessment, because I did mess things up... big time. Just understand me, I'm bitter, and when I am bitter, I say bad things. Bitter people are allowed to bitch around naman diba?

I just have to clear this out though--I love my org. :-) I love the people there. Everyone, even the homophobes.

A New Blog!--confronting issues, how petty they may be

I just decided to make a new blog. A lot of people know about my old blog na kasi. Anyway, I'm facing tough decisions here:

1. Do I use straight language, or do I code-switch?

2. Do I make my blog public, that is to say, do I make my friends aware of this, OR not?

3. Do i post my life and non-sense thoughts here or not?

Hmmm...

I guess i should make it billingual.

Maybe I should make this casual.

Perhaps I should tell my friends about this.
